RPA typically uses artificial intelligence to handle repetitive, rules-based, back-office tasks. And the market is about to experience a period of "explosive" growth.

Building self-driven vehicles obviously involves many many mathematical and engineering tools - but there is one key algorithm that lies at the core of this technology. Reinforcement learning is a technique that helps a machine remember the 'correct' and 'incorrect' steps it has taken over a period of time in solving a problem, and gain from experience, much like a human actor. While it has been applied in fields as diverse as speech recognition and algorithmic trading, its most exciting application has been the training of self-driven vehicles - not just cars, but drones and helicopters as well. In this workshop, we will actually work on a Reinforcement Learning software, and carry out experiments based on simulation. The workshop will broadly cover:

i. The Concept of Reinforcement Learning: Rewarding or Penalizing a Machine for its Actions
ii. Hidden Markov Model: The Mathematical Model behind Reinforcement Learning
iii. Introduction to Reinforcement Learning Software - Features and Capabilities
iv. Teaching a Vehicle To Navigate Obstacles and Advance Through A Maze - A Simulator-based experiment


X Topic Abstract

To build robotics applications faster and better, you want to start on a platform that offers a lot or reusable services and boilerplate utilities out of the box. Robot Operating System (ROS) ensembles a set of core services like libraries for projective geometry and computer vision, component configuration and communications interfaces, sensor data visualization, user interface design for a robot-base system, and diagnostic tools. This workshop will focus on some of these in-built features and making use of them to build a small application. The agenda for this workshop will be:

i. ROS: Overview of In-built Services, Libraries and Tools
ii. Build an Application: Object Detection and Acquisition using ROS
iii. Case Study on ROS-Industrial (ROS-I): An Open Source Project for the Manufacturing Sector

Takeaways

For both these topics, we will share a slide-deck, walk you through code and implementation details, and hand over a virtual machine pre-installed with a working application, and detailed instructions to run the application. The effect of computer-based technologies on employment . We find that:

(i) the total amount of work available has not decreased following the introduction of computer-based technologies; and

(ii) the pace of structural change and job turnover in the labour market has not accelerated with the increasing application of computer-based technologies.

A review of recent studies that claim computer-based technologies may be about to cause widespread job destruction establishes several major flaws with these predictions. Our suggested explanation for why techno-phobia has such a grip on popular imagination is a human bias to believe that 'we live in special times'.
